The Rain in Spain Falls mainly on the ...

It is raining BUCKETS outside right now... and I am stuck here at work. I had to take a damn cab to work this morning. I HATE springing for a cab when I have a bus card... but um... as I was walking in the watery curtain of nature's spillage, I saw the bus idling by... shit shit shit... so I cabbed it. I made the cab driver's morning (he said) because the fare was $4.75, I gave him a $20.00 bill and told him to just give me a $10 bill back. I figure, hey, if he's going to make it worth his while to bother driving me to work, I may as well make the ride worthwhile. $4.75 is a bit of an insult (at least it would be if I were a cab driver). Anyway, I am currently still working on compiling some of my material so that I can put together a substantial manuscript to shop around. This has been a few years in the making. I am being particular because I am hungry for publication of my very own book. I have a vision and hope that it turns out okay. Can't have too many hands in the pot. I wouldn't be happy if I didn't do it my way. I think I'm more concerned with quality as opposed to time and getting it out quickly. So, I just got Martina Topley-Bird's CD "Quixotic" this morning. It was waiting for me in my inbox here at work. (I had it shipped here to be safe)... and I am extremely stoked. Luckily I had my portable CD player with me... and I love it. So far tracks 6, 8, and 9 are my favorites, as is the intro. For those who have no idea who Martina is... she was a huge collaborator on a lot of English rapper Tricky's projects. She sang a lot of the haunting hooks you may've heard on some of his songs. He met her when she was just a wee lass. Check out Maxinquaye and Angels With Dirty Faces as points of reference. For vintage tricky, check out some of Massive Attack's earlier stuff. Martina is also the mother of Tricky's child. That brief musical overview outta the way... if you like something that's different and haunting and beautiful I would definitely check out Martina's solo debut. It's wicked. Martina sounds a little like Billie Holiday. Her album was re-released in the States as "Anything"... IGNORE THAT ONE! Get the original release, "Quixotic." "Anything" robs you of about 3 tracks. Bastards! Glad I checked that before I went ahead and purchased that shit. What else... oh well, since it's coming down like a pregnant woman's bladder, I will probably just stay in this weekend. I am turning into quite the homebody, which is fine by me. I just saw some wicked movies Thurs and Fri. via Netflix (fuck-ing LOVE that system they provide btw)- Ginger Snaps parts 1 & 2. Very different spin on the werewolf tale. I think part 3 will be out soon. I also revisited Fellini's Amarcord. Watched those and had some Argentinean red that I picked up at the wine and spirt shoppe. Gosh this blog is sooo boring. Will try to turn it up a notch next time. I think it's the weather. stay peaceful yet gritty! ciao
